Start with a natural standing position;then hold the arms up straight over thehead, throw the trunk and arms back witha swinging motion as far as possible; 88 ROTATING THE LEGS then forward with the same swinging mo-tion as far as possible. This motion stim-ulates the circulation, exercises all the mus-cles of the back and forward part of thebody, and gently acts on the spine and vis-ceral organs. ROTATING THE LEGS WHILE LY-ING ON THE BACK. (Fig- 9-) Lie on the floor on your back; raise thelegs in a rotary manner, making as wide acircle as possible. Revolve the legs fromright to left slowly and then reverse fromleft to right. This motion acts upon allthe muscles of the thighs, hips, the lowerportion of the abdomen and back, and alsoon the rectum, uterus, bladder and espec-ially upon upon the spinal cord. Any exer-cise that strengthens the spine greatly ben-efits the whole system, and this is one ofthe best movements for that purpose. This exercises all the muscles of theneck and improves the circulation in thehead. Bend the head slowly forward as far aspossible, and then backward in the samemanner. Bend the head sideways, first to theright, then to the left, each time as far aspossible. Revolve the head in a circular manner,first forward then sideways, in a circle,then backwards. All these exercises of the neck and headincrease the circulation and relieve conges-tion, and cure headache, and affections ofthe eye, ear, throat and nose, and spine. The number of times that all movementsmay be taken depends upon the health and ^2 HEAD MOVEMENTS—DIET strength of the person. If you take all ofthe exercises mentioned in this treatisetwice is sufficient for the first time, butthis may be increased daily as the strengthby exercise will increase.
